Chemistry Solution Checker
A Streamlit app that reads a chemical equation the way a student writes it, says exactly what is wrong, balances it and shows the steps.
01 / Challenge
Most checkers only say “the equation is wrong”, which tells a student nothing about which element is off or how to fix it.
02 / Idea
Treat balancing as linear algebra, not guesswork: every element gives one conservation equation, so the same matrix that balances an equation also explains why it fails.
03 / Process
- Solved the conservation matrix over rational numbers with SymPy, so ionic and redox equations share one code path.
- Told apart four outcomes — balanced, missing species, impossible and underdetermined — each with its own hint.
- Added stoichiometry, molar mass, a clickable periodic table of 118 elements and a chemistry keyboard.
- Designed a balance-scale view that shows an imbalance before you read a single number.
04 / Outcome
An Uzbek-language tool that runs offline without an API key and always names the element, the count on each side and the coefficient to change.
